University of New Mexico Parent Guide

September 2009

President's Message

Posted in

It feels like the energy level on this campus has increased tenfold overnight. Welcome University of New Mexico students to the 2009 fall semester.  We're about to begin an incredible journey. The demands will be greater and so will be the rewards.  We wish the very best to all of our students as you embark on another year of challenge and opportunity.

Our unofficial first day enrollment numbers show a 6.4 percent increase in new freshmen and a projected 103 percent increase in National Scholars from fall 2008. The University is also showing impressive gains in graduate students with a 23.1 percent increase in headcount and in the number of transfer students - a 36.8 percent increase.

Randy Boeglin is pleased to inform parents and families that the UNM Parent Relations Office and UNM Parent Association will now be units in the Dean of Students Office, the entity on campus that also oversees LOBO Orientation for incoming freshmen as well as the Family Connection orientation for parents and family members.

Dr. Peg provides immunization check-list for the college-bound:

Your child is in college. Can you believe it? Doesn't it seem like just yesterday you applauded the very first toddling steps? And now look at those giant strides. Good job! You have raised a scholar. I'm sure you also watched out for their health all these years, kissed their boo-boos and took them to the doctor for their shots. They're all up to date and ready to go out and face the world, right? Are you sure?
