Studies show that students who engage in campus life are more likely to persist and complete their educational goals. Engaged students are 1) exposed “…to a social network of other achievement-oriented peers, thereby generating and reinforcing higher aspirations and goals” and 2) “…acquire the personal resources (interpersonal skills, self-confidence, specialized knowledge, and the like) that better permit such aspirations and goals to be realized.”  Northeastern State University provides a variety of opportunities to engage in campus life. Following are programs and services offered through Student Affairs.

Greek Life

Greek Life at NSU consists of nationally recognized men fraternities, women sororities, historically black fraternities and sororities, and native fraternity and sorority. All Greek organizations are governed by peer councils. Greek Life is a community of individuals focused on scholarship, service, and leadership. Most Greek organizations recruit members prior to the fall semester. Greek organization members actively participate in campus life through attending athletic events, playing intramural sports, serving in the local community, and attending campus sponsored educational programs.

Leadership Development and Community Engagement Center

Leadership is a core value at Northeastern State University. The Leadership Development and Community Engagement Center provides students the opportunity to build knowledge of leadership and practice leadership skills through programs and services.

Community engagement opportunities are available for students through monthly community service projects, annual service days, special events one-time events, and community agency connections. Students are encouraged to participate in the programs and services offered through the Leadership Development and Community Engagement Center.

Multicultural Programs

Student Affairs partners with students and campus community members on a variety of programs focused on education and celebration of cultures. Guest speakers, movies, talent shows, food tastings, and displays are examples of opportunities for students to expand their knowledge and experiences with individuals of different backgrounds.

Northeastern Activities Board

The Northeastern Activities Board (NAB) is NSU’s student lead campus programming organization. Education and entertainment programs are planned and coordinated by student committees through NAB.  Activities range from concerts and trips to coffee houses, comedians, and lectures.  Students are encouraged to become an NAB committee member.

Northeastern Student Government Association

The Northeastern Student Government Association (NSGA) is the governing body for the NSU student population. NSGA is located on the Tahlequah and Broken Arrow campuses. NSGA is a primary outlet to address campus-wide student needs and desires. NSGA also actively participates in NSU traditional events such as Homecoming and Big Event, as well as, supports institutional priorities such as sustainability and service.

Recognized Student Organizations

Northeastern State University recognizes over 70 student organizations. Student organizations are designed to support one or more of the following categories: academic, religious, service, political and government, education and humanitarian, dance and entertainment, social, and academic honors.

Rookie Bridge Camp

Rookie Bridge Camp (RBC) is an extended-orientation program for first-time freshmen. RBC occurs prior to the start of the fall semester.  RBC is designed to aid incoming students with preparing for University expectations and social transition into college.  RBC is coordinated by student leaders and staffed by student volunteers. This unique program allows incoming students to meet and learn from their peers.
