Multicultural Programs

Posted in

The Office of Multicultural Programs provides a diverse range of programs and opportunities that are educational, recreational, social and cultural. These serve to support and promote multicultural awareness and an appreciation of cultural differences.

Multicultural Programs has invited a wide variety of speakers and performers, such as Maulana Karenga, Nikki Giovanni, Barbara Martinez-Jitner and the Piscataway Indian Nation Singers.

Annual programs include Kwanzaa, Native American Heritage Month, Black History Month, Hispanic/Latino Heritage Month, and the Kushinda/Ritos de Pasaje Graduation Celebrations in June.

The Multicultural Center serves as a place where cultural teaching and learning are the focus of all programs and activities. The Center’s focus is intercultural and is a place where members of the University community, representing a variety of backgrounds, can participate in programs and activities.

The Center houses a state-of-the-art multipurpose room and conference room, a computer lab, library and casual lounge. In addition, it has an Art Gallery, which has held exhibits in such diverse mediums as ceramics, glass, wood, photography, paintings, Appalachian quilts, and various collections.

The Office of Multicultural Programs and The Multicultural Center can be found in Baker University Center 205 and on the web.
