Staying Safe and Healthy
Campus Safety Resources
One of your primary concerns as a parent may be the safety of your student. UW Oshkosh is committed to maintaining a safe and secure educational environment and continues to develop new programs and technologies to better protect the campus community.
UW Oshkosh notifies students of campus emergencies online via the University home page as well as campus-wide e-mail notifications. An Emergency Procedures Guide recently was created and distributed throughout campus to help students, faculty and staff prepare for and respond to an emergency on campus.
Additionally, students can sign up to receive emergency notices via text messages through Titan Alert. Alerts include University closings, emergencies, inclement weather updates and parking updates. Students can register two phone numbers with Titan Alert.
In the event of inclement weather, students will be notified of class delays or cancellations via the University home page, campuswide e-mail and, if registered, Titan Alert. They also can call the weather line at (920) 424-0000.

University Police
The UW Oshkosh Police Department provides a safe environment — 24 hours a day, 365 days per year — conducive to personal growth and educational development. The University’s highly trained, educated and professional state police officers provide fair, impartial enforcement of state laws and UW System rules.
Student employees serve as Community Service Officers (CSOs), who work in pairs to help provide safety and security by patrolling campus on foot and working station security in the residence halls. The CSOs also provide, by request, safe escorts to students and employees who wish to be escorted at night to/from anywhere within a few blocks of the main campus.

Student Health Center
UW Oshkosh’s Student Health Center is run much like your primary care clinic. The staff consists of doctors, nurse practitioners, nurses, lab technicians and support staff. Among other services, the center offers primary and acute care, women’s healthcare, physicals, chronic disease management, nutritional evaluations, psychiatric care, minor surgical procedures, STD testing, immunizations, allergy injections, laboratory testing and limited pharmacy services.
Students pay a health fee each semester as part of their tuition. Office visits are free; minimal charges apply for supplies, procedures, lab tests and medications. Charges may be paid by cash, check and TitanCard or billed to the student’s University account. The health center does not bill health insurance.
Before your student heads to college, immunizations should be up to date. There are no immunization requirements for entrance into college.
Students should be covered locally by a health insurance plan, and they should carry a copy of their health insurance card. They need to be aware of which medical facilities and medical providers in the community are covered by their health insurance plan. For students who do not have adequate health insurance coverage, get information about a plan endorsed by the University.
If a student is age 18 or older, their medical information is confidential. Your student must sign an authorization form in order for University staff to share medical information with you. Remember, confidentiality is an important first step for young adults to begin taking responsibility for their own healthcare.
