Sacred Heart University Parent Guide
Welcome to Sacred Heart University
Dear Parents,
Welcome to Sacred Heart University, and thank you for taking the time to explore what a Sacred Heart education is all about. We respect the critical role parents play in guiding your sons and daughters through the college search process. It is our pleasure to get to know your entire family throughout this important and exciting time in your lives, and we look forward to assisting you with this process in any way possible.
This guide is intended to provide you with information not only about all that Sacred Heart University has to offer, but also answers questions that many parents have about the general college search process. For parents who are navigating this process for the first time, we hope it proves to be a valuable resource for you and children who are searching for their ideal collegiate fit. For families who have been through this experience, we hope this guide refreshes your knowledge base, as it addresses some recent developments within the landscape of college admissions.
As parents, you likely know your sons and daughters better than anyone in their lives. In helping your child obtain his/her best college match, we encourage you to foster in your child an inquisitive approach to this process – help your son/daughter research and visit different types of schools with diverse campus settings, locations, student body sizes, academic offerings, and student profiles. Go on tours, and talk to students, staff, and faculty. Ask your son/daughter if he/she could envision being enrolled as a student at each institution, and why, or why not?
In your own exploration, consider the success of each institution’s graduates, such as how many find jobs in their fields after they graduate. When examining educational costs, look beyond an institution’s price tag, and inquire about financial assistance, scholarships, work-study opportunities, campus employment, and paid internships, and take the time to research outside scholarship opportunities.
Sacred Heart University lives by its motto, “Where personal attention leads to personal achievement.” As such, we encourage you to contact us directly with any questions that arise for you about the University’s distinctive qualities and admissions requirements, as well as your family’s overall college search experience. We appreciate the effort you are putting into the college search process, and are eager to support you in any way possible.
Once again, thank you for your interest in Sacred Heart University – we are so pleased to welcome you into our community.
Best regards,
Karen Guastelle
Dean of Undergraduate Admissions
