Now that the 2011-2012 academic year is winding down, and students are preparing for their final exams which take place May 7 to May 12, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your ongoing interest and support for SCSU throughout the year, and more importantly, for your support for your student's success. 

We are closing the academic year with some remarkable events and we strongly encourage you to join us. Below are four upcoming featured events that we hope you will attend.

Meet Astronaut Commander Mark Kelly, husband of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords

On Friday, May 4, 2012 at 7:30 p.m., Astronaut Commander Mark Kelly, husband of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords who survived a murder attempt on her life in January 2011, will deliver the 14th Mary and Louis Fusco Distinguished Lecture, "Gabby: A Story of Courage and Hop7 at the SCSU John Lyman Center for the Performing Arts. Their story is a reminder of the patience needed to overcome unimaginable obstacles, and the transcendence of love. Ranked by Comedy Central as one of the top 100 stand-up comedians of all time, Sinbad has built a loyal following by making jokes from the trials or embarrassing tribulations of day-to-day life. His take on everyday things causes an uproar of comedic hysteria!  Meet NY Giants Kevin Gilbride and Hakeem Nicks at SCSU on May 7

Southern Connecticut State University will host An Evening With Kevin Gilbride and Hakeem Nicks on Monday, May 7 at the John Lyman Center for the Performing Arts. More details for the event here.

Gilbride, the offensive coordinator of the Super Bowl XLVI Champion New York Giants and graduate of the Class of 1974, and Nicks, one of the star wide receivers in the NFL, will provide an inside look at the Giants Super Bowl winning run. In addition, all fans in attendance will have an opportunity to view and take a photo with the Lombardi Trophy. The program will begin at 6:30 p.m. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. in order to allow fans to view the Lombardi Trophy.

Tickets are $10 for the general public and $10 for SCSU students, faculty, staff and alumni. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Lyman Center Box Office at (203) 392-6154 or ordered online

A veteran of 22 seasons as a coach in the National Football League, Gilbride recently completed his eighth season with the New York Giants. Previously, Gilbride also served as offensive coordinator and assistant head coach with the Houston Oilers (1989-94), offensive coordinator for the Jacksonville Jaguars (1995-96), head coach of the San Diego Chargers (1997-98), offensive coordinator of the Pittsburgh Steelers (1999-2000) and offensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills (2002-03).

A quarterback and tight end for Southern, he also served as head coach for the Owls from 1980-84 and posted a 35-14-2 mark. His 1982 team registered a 9-1 record and was ranked No. 9 in Division II.

Nicks, the Giants' first round draft choice in 2009, recently completed his third season with the team. He registered his second consecutive season with at least 1,000 receiving yards and totaled a career-high 1,192 yards this year on 76 catches. General admission.
