Dear Parents and Family Members,
Welcome to Residence Life at Southern Connecticut State University! Residence Halls on campus are communities where our students can focus on their studies, hold leadership positions, and achieve personal success. We are excited to welcome new students as they move into their "home away from home" - we are thrilled that they have chosen to live with us at SCSU!
New student move-in day is Saturday August 25th from 9:00am through 4:00pm. Staff and student leaders will be on-hand to assist you and your student throughout the day. Between 11:00am and 3:00pm, the Farnham Hall Programming Space will be open for free refreshing drinks and giveaways and to answer any questions you have about life at SCSU. All residential students will join their residence hall staff for a meeting in their halls that afternoon at 4:00pm to meet their new neighbors and discuss important university policies.
After the students enjoy dinner on Saturday, they will kick off a full weekend of activities with an outdoor movie screening on the Residence Life quad. On Sunday and Monday, the students have full days of orientation activities scheduled, including a Student Involvement Street Fair and a dance party in the evenings. Three optional off-campus trips on Tuesday offer students opportunities to dine and tour downtown New Haven, shop and catch a movie, or spend a day at the beach in Hammonassett State Park.
Returning students who are living on campus should plan to return on Tuesday, August 28, 2012 between 10 am and 4 pm.
As a reminder, all students must complete an online check-in prior to moving into their residence halls. This information takes about 10 minutes to complete and must include at least two emergency contact numbers of individuals whom university administrators may contact in the event of an emergency.
Also, all students must have a complete health record including verification of vaccinations and a physical within one year prior to the first day of classes. Please help us to assure your student has completed these steps before move-in day to make for a smooth transition to campus.
As you are preparing for your student's arrival on campus in the next few weeks, please visit the SCSU Residence Life website. You will find profiles of each hall, lists of items that are suggested and those that are prohibited in the residence halls, mail and meal plan information, and much more.
From the moment our students move in, they will experience a variety of educational and social activities. They will begin working towards graduation, creating memories, and making friendships that will last a lifetime! As we eagerly prepare for their arrival, we encourage you to contact us with any questions at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Welcome to Southern!
