Here’s some campus lingo to help you during your time on campus!

The Quad – The Center of the college’s 18-acre campus, the Quad (rangle) is surrounded by the majority of the buildings on campus. All doors seemingly open to the Quad, which is the perfect place for you to meet up with friends before and after classes. Watch for events such as Peacock Palooza and the Club Fair, which are both held in the Quad.

“Up The Hill” – Where East campus residence halls are located – Saint Peter, Millennium and Whelan.

“Down The Hill” – The West Campus residence halls on Glenwood Avenue, where you can potentially live apartment-style with friends during your years as an upperclassman.

Jesuit Court – Next to Millennium Hall, it’s a prime grassy spot to play ultimate Frisbee or even barbeque.

The Boulevard – John F. Kennedy Boulevard divides East and West Campuses at Saint Peter’s and is the main thoroughfare in Jersey City and most of Hudson County.

Montgomery – Montgomery Street is another main thoroughfare in Jersey City and runs from West Side Avenue and the SPC campus to the Hudson River. Translation: the fastest route to get to Downtown Jersey City and the waterfront, where you’ll find restaurants, internship opportunities, museums and more.

The Bridge – Don’t feel like crossing the Boulevard at street level? Head up to the pedestrian bridge which links East and West Campuses and provides a way to roll out of bed and get to class—all in under five minutes.

The Bubble – The top level of the Recreational Life Center is covered by a large white ‘bubble’ that contains indoor tennis courts and is used for intramurals and various teams’ indoor practices. It can be seen from more distant landmarks in the area such as the Pulaski Skyway, and is reputed to be visible from space—but don’t take our word for it.

Dinneen – Dinneen Hall, named after a former College president, is a mixed-use building. Located on the first floor are the offices of the Dean of Students, Campus Ministry, Student Activities, and Student Affairs, as well as the McIntyre Lounge meeting areas. On the second floor, you will find various student organizations like the Pauw Wow, Student Senate and Student Entertainment Board. The third floor has classrooms and a computer lab.

Gannon – Gannon Hall is the science building named after a former College dean who was responsible for creating many of the college’s traditions. Gannon underwent a $9 million renovation in 2001 to provide state-of-the-art labs and classrooms for programs in Biology, Biochemistry, Physics and the Health Sciences.

McDermott – McDermott Hall, named for the ninth president of the College, features the offices of the President, Academic Vice President, and the Academic Deans, as well as the Enrollment Services Center—one-stop registration, financial aid and student account and OneCard services. A new Center for Microplasma Science and Technology is under construction in McDermott.

Roy Irving or RIT – The College’s theatre is located in Dinneen, and where you can take a seat and enjoy one of our drama productions, wear your best business attire for the annual Career Fair, or learn more about campus life through the Wellness and Club fairs.

Movie Night – Every Tuesday night of the academic year, the Student Entertainment Board hosts a feature film in Pope Lecture Hall. You can catch a variety of popular films, and it’s a great study break.

Argus Eye – The circle-like feature found in a peacock feather. ARGUS EYES, the student drama society, performs two plays in the fall (one student-directed, one professionally-directed) and a musical in the spring.

Journal Square – A shopping area and the portal to New York City and Newark via the PATH transportation system as well as several bus lines. Via the Boulevard, Bergen Avenue or Van Reypen Street, it’s about 10-15 minutes’ walk from campus.

Path – The Port Authority Trans-Hudson commuter rail transportation system of New York and New Jersey, which runs to Jersey City, Newark, Hoboken and New York City. $1.75 gets you a fast fifteen minute ride to NYC or a short five minute ride to the Newport Mall near the Jersey City waterfront.

The Shuttle – The Journal Square Shuttle is a free service for you as an SPC community member. It runs from the corner of Glenwood and the Boulevard to the PATH station in Journal Square.
