Tennessee State University Parent Guide
Don't Let The Ball Drop!
The academic calendar has a complete schedule for the Spring 2011 semester.
After settling in and getting back to the routine,
Students may feel more comfortable about fitting in.
Getting involved on campus is one way to start.
We recommend these opportunities and hope they take part.
The first opportunity for involvement is within Greek life at TSU. We offer various fraternities and sororities if students are interested in pledging. Each chapter has an array of events planned throughout each semester like the NBA Luau with the Beta Omicron Chapter.
Another opportunity for your student to participate in are the student activities around campus throughout the semester. This balanced program of activities is the goal of the University, the Student Government Association, the Student Union Board of Governors, and Student Organizations. Student Activities are coordinated by the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs and the Director of Student Activities. Admission to most campus activities is by a valid Tennessee State University Identification Card. Participation in organizations may serve to develop special talents and skills in music, dramatics, writing and religious expression or to develop an appreciation and capacity for leadership, cooperation and fellowship. In making a choice of organizations, the student should consider his/her interests, health, scholarship, finances, and home relations. These activities will be posted on the bulletin boards around campus and in the Floyd Payne Campus Center.
Lastly, there are three other opportunities for your student to become involved at TSU through the TRIO programs. The Educational Talent Search Program, Upward Bound Program and the Student Support Services Programs at Tennessee State University are federally funded pre-college and college programs designed to provide cultural enrichment and supportive development creative thinking, effective expression, good study habits and positive attitudes toward learning. The projects assist students in developing goals and skills necessary to enter and to achieve success in post-secondary training programs and in institutions of higher learning.
So don't drop the ball on these important dates and events.
A hectic semester is what we want to prevent.
If you have any questions or concerns to share,
