A TSU Shopping Shuttle was recently established to begin transporting students to and from the Nashville West Shopping Center and Wal-Mart on Charlotte Pike. The shopping shuttle will now run twice on Saturdays in addition to the current shuttle service which takes students to the main and Avon Williams Campus for Saturday classes.
Students with valid TSU identification will now be able to access a variety of shops and restaurants such as Target, Old Navy and more as the University begins providing transportation to off-campus shopping destinations each Saturday afternoon.
Led by TSU students Connye Garrett, Jeremiah Crutcher and Brandon Neal, the proposed idea was to launch the use of the University's current on-campus shuttle services in a way that helped students with limited to no means of transportation to travel off-campus.
Garrett and her peers introduced the proposal to Vice President of Student Affairs Dr. Michael Freeman, along with the Office of Facilities Management, in hopes that the shuttle services would transport the students to various locations every Saturday, including Wal-Mart and the nearby shopping center Nashville West.
"Sometimes students who don't have transportation to acquire the necessities feel like they are a hindrance to others. It can also affect their stability in having clothing, food and class supplies. I'm delighted the University understood the notion behind our proposal and recognized the needs of the student body," Garrett said.
Freeman said University officials reviewed the proposal and discovered a plan to make it work that would be best suited for the students. "We are pleased to offer this new service to our students. I am happy especially when we can respond to ideas they generate and advance. Many students need reliable transportation to shopping and we are pleased to help provide a system that could accommodate their needs. "
The TSU Shuttle Service will leave from the circle location in front of the Floyd-Payne Campus Center with a
