The Career Advantage Network … A Step Towards Career Success

The Center for Career Management (CCM) is a comprehensive office designed to service the career needs of all students and alumni of The University of Akron. The CCM assists students in their career planning and development by offering individual career advising, programming, and testing.

Students are encouraged to visit the Center for Career Management for help in choosing a major, finding a summer job, co-op or internship, student employment, part-time/full-time employment, and the graduate/professional school search process. Career counselors will work with all students providing exposure to career options through a full service career and occupational library, computer-based career development tools and Internet resources.  In addition, the Center for Career Management staff works closely with alumni, employers, graduate and professional school personnel, and faculty to provide success in the job search and graduate/professional school process.

The CCM houses many resources, both paper and computer, to find graduate/professional school information, co-op/internship and employment opportunities. In addition, the necessary test materials for application to a variety of graduate and professional programs are provided to students/alumni including: General Record Exam (GRE), Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT), Law School Admission Test (LSAT), and the PRAXIS (formerly the NTE-National Teachers Examination).

Students seeking employment after graduation benefit from presentations on résumé writing, job search strategies and interviewing techniques. Popular programs such as the “Etiquette Lunch” and “Passport to Success” cover many of the above topics as well as benefitting from expert advice and participation of outside speakers and employers. The CCM co-sponsors, with other institutions, a variety of career fairs throughout the year.

In addition, the CCM maintains an electronic database, ZIProfessional, of full-time/part-time, on-campus, and co-op/internship opportunities and informs students of these opportunities via ZipMail. Students and alumni/ae can view these job listings as well as upload their résumés for employers to view by registering with our online system. This service is provided free of charge and is accessible 24/7.

For more information, please visit the CCM Web page and click on the parent’s section, or encourage your student to make an appointment with one of our staff members by calling (330) 972-7747 or by stopping by Simmons Hall, Room 301, to learn more about how we can assist them in reaching their career success.
