Protecting Your Student’s Health and Well-Being
What can I do, as a parent, to protect the mental health and well-being of my student?
- Encourage your student to maintain good mental health while achieving academic success and a competitive edge
- Encourage your student to manage stress and minimize behaviors that jeopardize their health status
- Encourage your student to interact and engage other students and avoid isolation
- Be knowledgeable about campus resources that are designed to support health, encouraging your student to seek out information and assistance, if it is needed
What campus outlets and resources are available to engage my student in the campus community and to minimize stress?
- Nearly 450 clubs and organizations, representing academic, environmental, multi-cultural, political, recreational, service, religious, sports, and social clubs
- Anteater Recreation Center, a state-of-the-art fitness center, featuring workout equipment, an indoor running track, lap and leisure pool, rock climbing wall, racket ball courts, and multipurpose rooms
- Intramural sports, designed for all skills levels - including, among others, basketball, flag football, indoor and outdoor soccer, softball, bowling, and softball
What else can I do, as a parent, to encourage the well-being and good mental health of my student during their first year of college?
- Communicate with your student regularly, providing support and encouragement!

Intramural sports, club sports, classes and clinics, fitness and wellness, outdoor adventures, and rock climbing to cooking classes are offered at the Anteater Recreation Center (ARC). The ARC has an 89,000 sq. ft. indoor facility, a 25 acre outdoor complex with field and court activities, and sailing facility in Newport Bay.
