Under the Family Educational Right to Privacy Act (FERPA) and UC policy, registered students have the right to keep their records private. The university is prohibited from sharing a student’s FERPA-protected information with anyone without a written release.

That does not mean that no information is available to you. Students may share information with their parents in the following ways:

  • Students may sign an authorization for parents to discuss their bills with Campus Billing.
  • Students may sign an authorization for financial aid information from the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships.
  • No authorizations are available for grades but unofficial and official print copies of grades are readily available for students to send to parents, as are electronic copies of grade reports.
  • A print-friendly calendar of useful dates, such as fee deadlines and grade availability is available from the Office of the Registrar.
