Financial aid is available for UC Irvine students from a variety of sources including the federal and state governments, the university, as well as private donors and sponsors. Depending on financial needs and other qualifications, students may receive grants, scholarships, loans and work-study. Complete information on the financial aid application process and the types of aid is available from the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships web page.

Grants
Grants are awarded on the basis of financial need and do not have to be repaid. Sources of grant funds are the federal and state governments, and the University of California. Grants are awarded to students who demonstrate financial need and have completed their financial aid application by the published deadlines, except for Pell Grants, which are available through the academic year. Information is available on the grants information page of the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships.

Scholarships
UC Irvine scholarships are awarded to students who demonstrate a high level of academic achievement. Depending on the scholarship, academic achievements, leadership, campus or community activities, work experience and financial need are taken into account during the scholarship selection process. See the scholarship information page for details. Additionally, UCI's Scholarships Resource Center assists undergraduate students with accessing and applying for external scholarship opportunities.

Educational Loans
Educational Loans are offered to students to assist them in financing their education. Loan must be repaid over a period of time, usually after a student leaves school. Loans are available from the federal government, the university and private lenders. See the loans information page for details.

Work-Study
UC Irvine participates in the Federal Work-Study program. Work-study funds are awarded to financially needy students who indicate they would like to work on campus. This program allows students to gain work experience while paying for part of their educational expenses with their earnings. See the work-study information page for more details.
