Tartan Soul
Tartan Soul is a way of being. It is embodying four values that are integral to being a true Highlander here at UC Riverside.
Integrity: We will conduct ourselves with integrity in our dealings with and on behalf of the University.
Accountability: We will be accountable as individuals and as members of this community, as well as holding others accountable to community standards.
Excellence: We will conscientiously strive for excellence in our work.
Respect: We will respect the rights and dignity of others.
The idea of having a Tartan Soul is embodying these four values. These values build strong character and show the world that you are a Highlander. These values were originally put on the paper by the University of California Office of the President (UCOP) in 2005, in a document called the “Statement of Ethical Standards.” These values were then recognized and adopted by the UC Regents.
In this same spirit, UC Riverside has now created what we call the Tartan Soul campaign. During Orientation, your students will be taught about Tartan Soul and what it truly means to be a Highlander and to strive to be the best at what they do. Ask them about it!
