Union College Parent Guide
Union College Parent Association
The Union College Parent Association seeks to involve parents of students and alumni in campus and regional activities, foster communication with the College, enrich students’ experiences and help strengthen the financial foundation of the College. It offers a variety of meaningful and fun ways for parents and families to be an integral part of the Union experience and make a positive impact on the daily life of the campus. All parents of current students are members of the association, and many enjoy working on programs involving admissions, career development, summer send-offs and other family events, and philanthropy.
Parent Fund
Philanthropic support from parents of current students and parents of alumni is very important to the College. The Parent Fund is a special part of the Annual Fund that provides annual support from parents, grandparents and other family members for every aspect of campus life, from academic programs to scholarships. A generous gesture above and beyond tuition, participation in The Parent Fund by our current parents also sends a strong vote of confidence about the extraordinary Union experience that their children are receiving. Each fiscal year (July 1-June 30), Union depends on these resources to operate in the present and build for the future.
Volunteer and Other Opportunities
Union College parents have been an integral part of the College community for hundreds of years. We value the unique contributions parents can make to their child’s education through their offers of time, knowledge and personal skills. Parent involvement makes a lasting impact on our campus. Here are some ways parents and family members can actively volunteer and stay connected with the College:
- Reach out by placing phone calls to incoming families.
- Help staff the Parent Program table on move-in day each fall.
- Host meetings in your home or at other venues, including receptions featuring professors and administrators.
- Mentor students in their career field, and offer paid or unpaid internships through your job and professional affiliations.
- Represent Union at college fairs in or near your hometown.
- Serve as a regional Alumni Club contact.
- Invite other parents to support the College by participating in The Parent Fund.
- Attend Steinmetz Symposium.
- Cheer our athletic teams, both home and way.
- Go garnet; display Union stickers and decals and wear Union garb.
