Tuesday, Feb. 2: Career Services Etiquette Workshop from 5-7:30 p.m. in the Student Union Ballroom C. Students will practice mixing and mingling through appetizers, beverages and conversation. This will be followed by a formal, three-course dinner emphasizing professional etiquette skills. This workshop is highly recommended for students completing their programs of study and preparing to enter the job market or a graduate program, 277-2531.
Wednesday, Feb. 3: Parent Talk, 6-7 p.m. Dean of Students Conference Room, Student Services Building main campus, free. Marla Wyche-Hall will discuss the importance of undergraduates getting involved with research. Wyche-Hall coordinates University College's Research Quest and Undergraduate Research and Creativity Conference, events designed to motivate students to engage in peer-reviewed research. Students gain presentation and speaking experience and are eligible for cash prizes. Parents, families and students are invited to attend these free talks, held the first Wednesday of each month. Thursday, Feb. 4: Sharing Best Practices in Culture and Identity. Presentations and exhibits showcase teaching methods, training modules, recruitment and support of students and employees from under-represented groups, and other ways that programs and individuals have embraced diversity, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. SUB ballrooms. Tuesday, Feb. 9: "Step Afrika!" An event brought to you by Student Special Events, 7:30 p.m. in Popejoy Hall, UNM ID gets students two free tickets, public tickets are $7.50 at the Bookstore ticket office and http://www.unmtickets.com. For information, call 277-5602.
Thursday, Feb. 11: UNM Career Expo takes place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the UNM Student Union Building Ballrooms. Career Expo is the largest career fair on campus. Last year's event was attended by 106 recruiting agencies and over 4,500 job seekers. Career Expo is open to all UNM students, alumni and community members, 277-2531.
Saturday, Feb. 20: Parent Association's 2nd annual Parent Day at the Pit. A pre-game reception for parents, families and their students will be held at University Stadium's End Zone Club at 11:30 a.m. Refreshments, door prizes and silent auction. For information and to register, visit the website.
Wednesday, March 4: "Faculty as Mentors," is this month's topic for Parent Talk, held from 6-7 p.m. in the Student Services Center, rm. 290. Professors provide students with accessibility to research, scholarships, internships and graduate school. Hear from faculty how students can use office hours effectively, ask for a letter of recommendation and get help to succeed academically.
Wednesday, April 21: Career Services presents the Educator's Job Fair from 2 to 6 p.m. in the SUB ballrooms. Open to UNM students, alumni and community members interested in education related jobs and careers. Recruiters from New Mexico and the nation attend this event.
