Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
The “Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act” (FERPA) is the U.S. federal law that provides students the right to have some control over the disclosure of information from their educational records. Student educational records include academic, financial, and disciplinary records.
Directory information (address, phone number, dates of attendance, etc.) may be released without a student’s consent. Students may request privacy on directory information so that it will not be released without their permission.
In order for UWF to release non-directory information to a third party, the student must elect to release access to their information through MyUWF or provide written permission to the Registrar’s Office. Please refer to the Catalog or the UWF website for more information on privacy and access to student records.
