Choosing a major is one of the most important challenges for college students – and one that they may do more than once during their career. But, what resources are available to help them choose? The following list provides some of the resources available to help your student get more information about different majors and career options:

The following list provides some of the resources available to help your student get more information about different majors and career options:

• College course catalog – it is amazing the amount of information that can be found in course catalogs, from required courses to specialized majors and tracks.
• Professors and academic advisers – Encourage your student to speak with their professors, many of them have worked in the field in which they teach and all are experts about careers and career opportunities.
• Upperclassmen – these students are deep into their major, and perhaps have already had an internship or job interviews...use them as a resource to gather more information.
• College alumni – your student’s school will have a deep and varied group of alums, many of whom like to talk with current students…so have your student use them as a resource to gather more information about careers.
• Family and friends -– there's a wealth of information within your student’s family and inner circle. Next time they come home; have them talk with family and friends about majors and careers.
• College's career center – have your student start during their first year because they will have many resources for choosing a major and a career, as well as internship and job placement information.
