University of Wisconsin-Parkside Parent Guide
Alma Mater
The UW-Parkside alma mater, “Our Years,” was written for the 25th anniversary of the university in 1993-94. The lyrics were written by English Senior Lecturer, Patrick McGuire and the music by Emeritus Professor, Frank Mueller. It is performed at commencement and other formal events.
“Our Years”
There is hope sprung up on the prairie
for we take in hand the world’s plow
We who are Parkside’s sons
and daughters
we are ready to go forth now
We lingered where trees and prairie grass
made companion of solid bricks and glass
We marched through the halls
of time and space
to understand the human race
We grew under Parkside,
our great teacher
to know the past, t’imagine the future
Our years are the hope sprung up
up-on the prairie
and we take in hand the world’s plow
We who are Parkside’s sons
and daughters
we are ready to go forth now
