Getting Started
First Year Experience
First-Year Experience (FYE) refers to the experiences students have during their first year of college. It is designed to provide students with tools necessary to succeed academically, socially, and transition to university life. The First Year Experience program will teach students how to function effectively in a college environment. The program is dedicated to promoting student development and graduation.
Mission
We at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside are committed to fostering a challenging and supportive first year for our students. This will be sustained by high quality educational programs which integrate academic, social and personal experiences within a community of social equality. Ranger Read Program
UW-Parkside is an institution that values Community, Diversity, and Inclusion! As an expression of these values, all incoming freshman have been asked to read a common book (Maus II by Art Spiegelman) and to be prepared to discuss it as a part of Ranger Welcome. The goal of a common reading is to establish a greater sense of community among students and to provide an introduction to college life. The Ranger Read Program hopes to:
- Provide new students with a common experience that will set the tone for the community by creating a comfortable, safe environment that is conducive to learning.
- Provide new students with anopportunity to begin exploring new perspectives and ways of viewing the world.
- Provide new students with an opportunity to develop relationships in their new community.
- Provide students with an opportunity to see and understand the importance of being engaged in their entire college experience.
