Western Kentucky University Parent Guide
Welcome to WKU!
One of the biggest days in a child’s life is the day they move in their college residence hall for the first time. We remember this event as if it were yesterday. The excitement and anticipation while driving to Bowling Green that Thursday morning was almost overwhelming.
We had been through this once before with our oldest daughter. Many hours had been spent talking, planning, organizing, shopping, and packing in preparation for this new chapter in her life. It doesn’t matter how prepared you are, this is a tremendously emotional experience for everyone involved.
You will soon realize that WKU will be your child’s “home away from home.” The university provides a quality education, safe campus, caring administrators, and it provide your student with many activities to enhance his or her college days. “Life on the Hill” will help instill integrity and character in your young adult and they will become a mature, well-rounded individual as they progress through their college years.
As parents, we continue to visit the WKU campus as often as possible. At home we can keep in touch with campus news and activities via the on-line College Heights Herald, WKU website, Alumni Association homepage, WKU Spirit Magazine and even on Facebook. We are currently serving as Co-Chairs for the Parents’ Council which represents the Parents’ Association. As members of this group, we are encouraged to share our thoughts, ideas, and concerns that deal with the entire student body. This group works closely with the WKU administration with the goal of making this the best university possible!
If we can answer any of your questions or concerns, from a parents’ perspective, please feel free to contact us and we will do our best to assist you. We encourage you to be an active part of this transition by joining and supporting the WKU Parent’s Association. Sometime soon, take time to walk across this beautiful campus and feel the magic! WKU is REALLY a place for your child to be somebody! The motto of WKU is “The Spirit Makes the Master” and that spirit is alive and well today!
