WKU host to Kentucky Solar Energy Society's annual meeting Aug. 21

Posted in

WKU was the host for the Kentucky Solar Energy Society's 2010 annual meeting on Saturday (Aug. 21).

Interested people from the community, builders, students, architects and policy-makers were invited to tour two of the award-winning green facilities for which Bowling Green is becoming known and learn more about renewable energy opportunities in the state. This event, which was open to the public, drew participation from around the state.

Participants toured Service One Credit Union's LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) building on Campbell Lane and the Richardsville Elementary "net-zero energy" school - first in the nation. Architect of the school, Kenny Stanfield of Sherman, Carter and Barnhardt, and Tommy Jones of Solar Energy Pioneers, Bowling Green's first solar energy installation business, also made presentations.  Finally, there was a discussion of TVA and tax incentives for renewable energy and a brief business meeting.

As a bonus, the annual meeting coincided with the International Newgrass Festival held Friday (Aug. 20) through Sunday (Aug. 22) as well as the Traditions Picnic Pops that will raised money for Habitat for Humanity.
