WKU Named A Top Producer Of U.S. Fulbright Students

Western Kentucky University has been included in a list of colleges and universities producing 2009-2010 Fulbright Fellows. The success of the top producing institutions was highlighted in the Oct. 19 print edition of "The Chronicle of Higher Education."
Two WKU students who recently graduated from the Potter College of Arts & Letters won Fulbright awards for 2009-2010, more than any other public higher education institution in Kentucky.

Eight WKU Students Will Circle the Globe On Semester At Sea

Eight Western Kentucky University students will be setting sail Aug. 28 as part of the prestigious Semester at Sea study abroad program.

"Semester at Sea is one of the most unique educational programs in the world," said Dr. Bernie Strenecky, scholar-in-residence at WKU. He also is the ship's director of service learning and a member of the Semester at Sea's alumni board of directors.

This fall, the Semester at Sea program will celebrate its 100th voyage with about 520 students aboard the floating campus. The University of Virginia serves as academic sponsors. Schools such as Pittsburgh, Colorado, Stanford, Virginia and UCLA traditionally send groups of students on the voyages.

M.A.S.T.E.R Plan

Today marks the beginning of the 17th year for Making Academic and Social Transitions Educationally Rewarding (M.A.S.T.E.R.) Plan. The program is sponsored by the Department of Housing and Residence Life and supported by numerous campus and community organizations. The goal is to help first-year students make the transition to live at WKU through educational and informational workshops, special events and social activities.
