Western Michigan University Parent and Family Guide
WMU Campus Housing
Residence Life provides a variety of services for on-campus students. Most students live in the residence halls, but there are also campus apartments for upperclass and graduate students, and students with families. In addition to convenience, living on campus offers the benefit of a community of peers, instant access to staff, a safe environment, and support for the challenges associated with being a busy college student.
When students have problems or questions, student and professional staff are easily accessible. They help with everything from how to get involved on campus to tips for living with a roommate to referrals for campus services. In the residence halls, there is a resident assistant (RA) who lives on each floor. RAs, who are upperclass students, are responsible for creating a floor community through hall activities, assisting students with personal and academic concerns, and helping in emergency situations.
A full-time professional hall director, typically assisted by a graduate student, manages each residence hall. The hall director lives in the building and is responsible for student staff supervision, facilities management, crisis intervention, and creating an environment supportive of education and self-discovery.
The opportunity for an outstanding on-campus experience awaits your student. Visit WMU Residence Life, call (269) 387-4735, or e-mail.
