Fort Lewis Homecoming & Family Weekend
Family Weekend will take place on campus during the week of October 13–19. We hold Family Weekend concurrently with Homecoming as there are so many events that are welcoming to family members, alumni, and of course, our students. We have polled students frequently regarding their desires for family weekend and the consistent response is that they want time with you. They want to show you their classrooms, introduce you to some of their friends, maybe go on a hike and/or eat at a restaurant not in their weekly budget, etc. With that in mind we plan only a few special events for family members that week and then open all Homecoming events to the families as well.
One very special change this year is that our Homecoming football game is going to be broadcast by CBS Sports Network. This will be a first for us, and as a result, the game has been moved from Saturday afternoon to Thursday evening, October 16. There is the Skyhawk Homecoming BBQ, sponsored by Sodexo. All family members are welcome to attend the BBQ at no cost when accompanied by their student.
We also like to make it possible for family members to visit classrooms on Friday, October 17. I have made my request to the faculty, and should be publishing a list of open classrooms by later next week. That list will be posted on the Family Weekend website. More events are listed on the Homecoming website.
The last special event is the Family Weekend Hike on Saturday morning, October 18. We have room for 12 family members and students on this outing lead by staff from our Outdoor Pursuits Program. We gather at 8 a.m., grab a breakfast burrito and coffee or tea, have a quick safety briefing and are transported by van to a great 2-hour hike close to town. Some families are accompanied by their students, and some not; it’s fine either way. If you are interested in this outing, please contact me at [email protected] and I will get your burrito order and send you more details.
Hope to see you in October for Family Weekend,
