Personal Statement

I have been a private educator for many years, and I truly love working one-on-one with students. With an MA in linguistics, and a background of working in education for over 25 years, I find that there is nothing more satisfying than seeing the light bulb appear above the student's head when he or she finally gets it.

My strengths as a tutor include the fact that I am excellent at communicating with my students, I know how to work at each student's level, and still can get each student to ...

Thank you very much, Carol, your way of teaching and your concern that I understand, fulfilled my needs. I recommend her one hundred percent, she is kind, punctual and it is easy to communicate with her. Thank you very much.

Carol is tutoring my kid for English and writing for several months already. She always well prepares for each lesson and use the time effectively. She challenges my kid by bringing different levels of materials which covers writing, reading comprehension and vocabulary. The amount of homework she leaves weekly is reasonable and with quality. I would recommend her to anyone who is looking for a great English and writing tutor.

I love how Carol considers different ways to approach the material, looking for the best way for Evan to retain the information. Thanks, Carol! We look forward to continuing to work with you.

Carol is extremely knowledgeable as well as dedicated to her students. She will print out many assignments to work on for Spanish, and spend a lot of time looking.Through her hard work and time working with me, I have been able to raise my grade from a C to a B in Spanish. Before Carol, I barely understood Spanish and couldn't tell you what a simple sentence meant, but with her teaching, I succeeded. She was extremely thorough in the conceptual as well as practical use, thoroughly explaining every concept to me, as well as telling me why I made a mistake extremely clearly. There is no doubt that Carol is a devoted and great teacher.

My son has had only one session with Carol to date. He felt very positively about the lesson and he is a tough sell. I found Carol to be passionate and caring. Her first instinct is to find what engages her student and then to wrap her teachings around what she finds. To me, that is at the very heart of a good educator.
- Geoff S. from Calabasas, CA
Carol asked ahead of the session what the test would cover and came prepared with materials and lessons tailored to that test. This really helped me be prepared and I feel like I did really well on this test. Thanks !!

Carol is working with my son, a high school junior. She is tutoring him in AP Spanish. He was happy with the session and wants to continue working with her. They are, and will be covering, current classwork/homework as well as reviewing Spanish 3 curriculum.

Carol is helping my daughter improve her writing skills so she is ready for 5th grade. My daughter attends a private school in the LA area that is 1-2 years ahead in most subjects, so Carol's expertise has been a huge asset to us in getting my daughter ready.

Carol is a wonderful tutor. She is intelligent in understanding my research and gives great questions for me to further think. Also, she is accurate in finding my errors in speaking, even small mistakes. It is a great help in improving my English. I really like her and I am motivated by her. Hope to continue working with her.

Carol Anne has been thrice, now, to tutor my 9th grade son in English. I have been very thankful and impressed with the effort that Carol Anne has put in. She has worked with him to complete three class assignments and did a lot of her own homework for each, beforehand, to make sure her comments and efforts were relevant to the works he was assigned. She patiently goes over all of his work, including grammar, punctuation, diction, style, vocabulary and (the dreaded) spelling in a friendly, calm manner. At first, my son was very resistant to the idea that I had hired a tutor to go over his work (and he barely spoke during that first session), but after this third visit, I see his tough persona beginning to thaw and I heard him engaging in a decent discussion with Carol Anne about this most recent essay. I really wasn't sure what I would ask an English tutor to work on with him since he doesn't get daily problems, like one would in a math class, but I know that he needs more work in this subject and so far, I have been skeptical about the rigor (or lack thereof) of the curriculum and attention he is getting in school. Carol Anne is very flexible and willing to work on whatever happens to be at hand at the moment.

Carol has been and continues to be a fantastic tutor for one of my lead managerial employees. She is punctual, flexible, and always professional. She is tutoring our manager in order to help him develop better verbal and written English. Carol is particularly skillful in identifying very specific problems in tense, word usage, and pronunciation. Consequently her tutoring is very tailor made and effective. She is honest, open, and joy to have among our team. I highly recommend her for developing English skills in adults.

Great sessions, friendly and easy to work with, very skilled in writing techniques. Our session was for GRE prep (verbal and analyzing) and I definitely feel more comfortable going into the test.

Carol has been our girl's tutor for the past two months. During this time she has been a pleasure to have in our home and has been just lovely with our children. She is prompt and professional and always brings interesting work for our girls, which she researches on the net. She has a lovely, friendly personality and makes tutoring fun for our children. She is very smart and well read and has a good way of imparting her knowledge to children. She is trustworthy, sensible and thoughtful, the type of person that you want to have around your kids. We are very grateful for her help over the last two months and sad to say goodbye, we are all very fond of her. Thank you for employing such a high caliber of tutor.
