News from the University Career Development Center

The University Career Development Center is hopping with activity this fall. Career fairs, on-campus interviews, advising appointment, and special events have been making this an exciting semester for students thinking about career planning.

Even though we are quickly approaching the final stages of another fall semester, there are still great events that your student can attend to help with their career planning. Students of all levels, from first-year students all the way through graduate students are welcome to attend any of these upcoming University Career Development Center Events:

The BIG EVENT will be held on Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009 in the Arkansas Union 5th floor, 5:00pm until 8:00 pm. Hosted by the University Career Development Center, this is a professional development conference designed to prepare and give University of Arkansas students the competitive advantage in their job or graduate school search, and life beyond college.

The BIG EVENT consists of three sessions. The first hour consists of a panel presentation titled, “The Inside Scoop, Employers Tell All.” During the second and third hours, students will have an opportunity to choose from 14 different career related workshops. Some sample programs include: “Getting Your Foot in the Door of the Supplier Community of NW Arkansas,” “How to get a federal Job,” “Applying to Graduate School.” There will be something for everyone! “From Study Abroad to Career Abroad: A College Student’s Guide to Gaining International Experience” will be held on November 3, 12:00-1:00 pm, ARKU 308sw. It will inform students about study abroad experiences beginning with finding a program, all the way through how to market their experience to potential employers on a resume.

“Before You Sign on the Dotted Line” will be held November 11, 3:00-4:00pm in Arkansas Union 509. Students will learn about “Total Compensation” and why it’s not all about the salary when it comes to considering a job offer.
